If you are looking for a little less crowded path to playing golf in college, NAIA Golf may just be the avenue you have been looking.  Most NAIA schools, just like NCAA schools have golf programs and offer scholarships for these athletes. 

Opportunities At Two Levels

NAIA golf can offer you scholarship opportunities to play at two different division levels, Division I and Division II.   Unlike the NCAA, there is no Division III level in NAIA.  Just like in the NCAA,,the Division I schools are larger and the competition is a little more intense. Typically, there are five scholarships available form men and six scholarships available for women. 

Less Competition For Scholarships

NAIA golf is very competitive on the course.  You will find the golfers to be excellent players.  However, the competition to play golf at this level is a little less intense than with NCAA schools because the schools are typically smaller and less well known.  Even though the competition for these scholarships may be a little less intense, don’t expect to walk right into one of these scholarships.

Smaller Recruiting Budgets

NAIA schools, especially at the division II level, typically have small recruiting budgets.  That means they can’t just travel the country looking to sign undiscovered golfers.  They have to rely on finding golfers by free and inexpensive avenues.

An Opportunity For You

If you are an above average high school golfer and you are looking to play college golf, NAIA golf may be a great opportunity for you.  To make it happen, you need to start marketing and promoting yourself to college coaches no later than your junior year.  These college will be glad to hear from you if you have what it takes to help their program.
